What is the body? It could be defined as with regard to living things, a body is the physical body of an individual. “Body” often is used in connection with appearance, health issues and death.
The human body consists of a head, neck, torso, two arms and two legs, as well as numerous internal organ groups such as respiratory, circulatory and a central nervous system.
The body can be defined as a living system affected by its surrounding in which the inputs and outputs of observation have given the body a historical importance and reverence. For centuries, the body has been studied, poked, prodded, and analyzed and the outcomes of this process has lead to a majority of eastern and western medicines and idea of ergonomics, system design and space.
The body is steeped in theory and ideology which has lead to many theories including dualistic thinking and the separation of mind and body. Perception is an outcome of body systems and the idea of perception has lead to the understanding of consciousness, the notion of the soul and the power of thinking and creativity.
As the body moves into ubiquitous technological advances, can a body be define by the data under which has been observed? With the use of sensory data collection methodologies, the notion of understanding the body through data and the subsequent representation of that data will play into our notion of training the body through Somatic tools of representation.
