The quick version

OSU Robotics works on land, sea, air, and space, and on the ethics of all of it. I designed a system of badges, one for each area, that reads as a single family and works at any size.

[One or two sentences: why the program wanted an icon system, and who the shirt was for.]

The work

Eight arched badges for Land, Sea, Air, Space, Human-Robot, Ethics, Swarm, and SpiderHarp
One badge per field. Land, Sea, Air, Space, Human-Robot, Ethics, Swarm, and SpiderHarp, drawn with the same arch, weight, and level of detail. [Add a line on the drawing rules.]
The badge set shown in two orientations, badges up and badges down
Flexible by design. Each badge can sit up or down, so the set can be arranged into patterns. [Add a line on why.]
The back artwork: a framed grid of badges under the words OSU Robotics, Robots for the real world
The system at scale. The badges tile into a single poster-like grid for the back of the shirt.
A woman seen from behind wearing the OSU Robotics shirt in front of an orange and cream background
On the shirt. The finished piece, worn. [Add a line on where it was used.]

What it shows

  • Iconography. [How the badges stay clear at small sizes.]
  • Systems thinking. [How one set of rules produced eight badges, and could produce more.]
  • Visual design. [How the system carries the program's identity.]
